Resource Management

Resources are the building blocks of work in Aptli: the materials, labour types, and equipment that get planned into tasks, allocated in work orders, tracked in inventory, and consumed on field reports. This broad definition encompasses:

  • Planned labour — e.g. installation of field equipment
  • Ad hoc tasks — e.g. draining a flooded access point
  • Consumable stock — e.g. metres of cable or countable items
  • Non-consumable equipment — e.g. ladders and forklifts

Resources need to be registered before they can be allocated to work orders, tasks, or inventory transactions. While it is not critical to capture every possible item, having the most common needs defined outside of a catch-all "miscellaneous" category makes reporting and planning significantly more useful.

Resource Types

Aptli recognises three resource types, which affect how a resource is tracked and converted:

  • Material — consumable items tracked by quantity and unit of measure (e.g. Cat6 cable in metres, conduit fittings by count)
  • Labour — people or teams required for a task, tracked by hours or days
  • Equipment — non-consumable items that are allocated and returned (e.g. ladders, vehicles, test equipment)
