Drawing and Saving

People who can edit the map see the drawing tools in the tool button and Save at the right of the toolbar.

Drawing a new feature

Open the tool button and pick a shape:

Draw point, Draw line and Draw polygon;
Draw diamond and Draw circle;
Draw freehand and Draw freehand polygon;
Annotation, a note placed on the map.

Each tool's hint says what the next click does. Click to place points. A line or polygon finishes on the last point you double-click. While you draw, the length and area follow the cursor.

A shape you draw is a draft. Drafts gather in Selected features, marked as drafts, until you save them into a layer. Saving asks which layer each draft belongs to, and each new feature then takes that layer's fields.

Placing points without a mouse

Every drawing tool also works from the keyboard. The map shows a crosshair at its centre and a Capture button: move the map under the crosshair, then press Capture to place a point there.

Reshaping features

The tool button's lower group changes what is already drawn:

Edit geometry moves a feature or its individual points.
Rotate turns a feature about its centre.
Merge areas joins polygons into one.
Buffer draws an area a set distance around a feature.
Trace along draws a new line that follows an existing one.

Merge, buffer and trace ask what happens to the originals: keep them or remove them.

Undo and Redo step through your edits one at a time.

Saving

Map edits save in two stages.

Save keeps your changes in your working version. Only you see them, and the count on the button says how many there are.
The arrow beside Save sends the version on. Save and send to server uploads it. Save, send and request approval uploads it and asks an approver to commit it, with a note if you add one.

Until an approver commits it, a banner on the map says your changes are waiting. The whole flow is on Versions.

Taking the map offline

Save this area for offline, in Save's ⋯, fills this device with your records and the current map area. Work after a lost connection starts from current data.

On the phone

The phone's map puts the save, Undo, Redo, saved views and your selection across the top. Below them:

The filter row chooses whose work the map draws, Mine or All work, and its chevron opens every filter, including one highlight.
The work list at the bottom lists the work drawn on the map, numbered like its markers. Tap a row to fly to its marker. Drag the handle to see more.
Search, bottom left, finds an address or a record.
Drafting options, the pencil, opens the selection and drawing tools, and Draft with AI where the assistant is on.

When you draw on the phone, the crosshair stays in the middle of the map. Move the map, then press Capture to place each point. Your finger stays clear of where it lands. Finish completes a line or polygon. Keep draft saves what you drew into a layer, and Stop drafting leaves the tool.

The header's report button starts a report from where you stand.
